The cultural memories stored on disintegrating videotape media are being lost forever. We need to archive and preserve documentaries and independent programming that may just disappear. Minnesota Media Arts is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization fostering the production, preservation and access to works of media arts. We are working with Minnesota's creative, cultural, artistic organizations and individuals to better manage and stabilize their media collections to preserve our cultural heritage. We do this by offering educational resources and media archive project coordination, production and distribution services.
Your support will help foster our research and assist in providing discounted services to MNMA members and individual artists, and arts and cultural organizations.
Our cultural history captured on videotape is 'in crisis' and may be lost forever. While viable video playback equipment is becoming more obsolete, the magnetic tape medium itself is also disintegrating. We need now to take action to stabilize media collections, through an archive and preservation process as soon as possible, or it may just disappear.
